The Morning
The Morning is a breakfast gathering centred around human connection & mindful eating. For each event, chef Edwin Sander and his team collaborate with a special creative guest - me, this time!
On Sunday the 18th of February, 65 guests gathered at Brouwerij de Prael Houthavens for a morning filled with food and art. I dressed the space with big acrylic paintings, a selection of framed prints and made sure even the tablecloth was adorned with hand-drawn illustrations. The delicious menu was sensual, playful, simple and colourful, much like the art I make. My favourite place for breakfast is in bed, so I approached the tablecloth as linen sheets. The perfect backdrop for a group of sexy sleepy girls, slowly waking up after a big pyjama party. All guests were welcome to participate. Next to the spoon, fork, and knife flanking every plate, lied a pencil. Between the first and the second course, I invited the guests to pick it up and add their own drawings to the table, making it one big Gesamtkunstwerk. With my work, I hope to create a very intimate vibe, that is why I wanted the guests to skip the small talk and get personal. Between the second and third course everyone received a card with an illustration and a question to ask their neighbour.
